While many visitors come to Ait Benhaddou to esteem its dramatic beauty and historical significance, others have come away with experiences that have left them questioning whether the village is truly haunted or hiding a darker, supernatural side. A photographer from Spain reported a disturbing situation while investigating the abandoned Kasbahs. As she was taking photographs of the walls, she suddenly felt a cold gust of wind rush past her, despite the air being still just moments before. As she turned to look, she saw a figure in a dark hooded cloak standing and watching her. When she blinked, the figure was gone.

Another story comes from a local guide who has worked there for years. He claims that while leading tourists through the village at night, he has often seen strange lights flickering in the windows of the old Kasbahs, even though no one lives in those buildings. The lights are said to move from room to room, following him as he walks through the village. On several occasions, he heard the sound of footsteps behind him, only to turn around and find no one there.
